Grace: We all need each other

Grace was very imaginative and creative last night. One simple theme played out in different ways to help us access ways of reflecting on it.

Everyone was given a set of glasses to wear as they entered. Some had blue lenses and others red. The main graphic above was projected on a screen and also on a display board. Red lenses let you see the blue graphic and text and vice-a-versa.

On display boards around the venue were overlaid texts. The blue texts were all 'beatitudes' and were overlaid on a text of other words from Jesus which apparently seemed to contradict the beatitude. We were allowed to examine the 'exhibit' and then encouraged into groups to discuss what we saw. Those with blue glasses saw something very different to those with red glasses.

We were then told an allegory from the ancient world and asked a question: "which is the greater sin, to tell a lie or lose your temper?". We were then invited to reflect on a message in a candle-lit mirror as a kind of ritual and to take a communion wafer with a cross marked on it. Of course we could only see the cross of the opposite colour to out own lenses.

The point? To provide a context to enable us literally to see that we need one another if we are going to build up the most complete picture of Jesus. We need people who see things differently to help us think through how we see things - and why.

A creative and challenging evening. Well done Grace.
